Spiders and Snakes....They're just NOT my thing

I've never been a fan of weeding a garden and after this experience, I don't think I will become one any time soon.

I've been a homeowner for two years now. (October 12th officially marks two years, but we are close enough.) We bought a "fixer uper" and have been cutting down trees, tearing out bushes, and laying our brick patio in addition to all the inside renovations. (pictures of my new bathroom will come) Now, we are planning on pouring a new concrete front stoop in the spring, therefore, I have not planted a single flower or nice plant in the front planter because I'd have to rip everything out anyways. Let's not waste time or money right? However, this does not stop the weeds from growing unfortunately.

So, the other day, I put Bella outside in her pack-n-play and I started weeding. I should have known things would be bad when I couldn't find my gardening gloves and was forced to use my rubber gloves. Now, I'm sure some of you may know this, but rubber gloves DON'T WORK! They tore to shreds, but it was the only thing that I had so, oh well.

I decided to start at the little planter I have around my mail box. (I figured I'd start small so I would feel some sort of accomplishment when I was finished) While weeding, a neighbor came by to tell us how nice the house looks and that we have done a very nice job fixing it up. I felt very encouraged for all our hard work. As my husband was talking with him I kept weeding only as I was weeding these HUGE and I mean HUGE spiders came crawling out. I ran, completely grossed out as my husband and neighbor laughed at me. Probably didn't look that great in front of my neighbor, but I don't care. I HATE spiders (as I'm sure his wife does too.)

I got over that quickly, making my husband pull out the last bit of weeds, and went on my way. The mailbox is the only weeding I got done 1. because my gloves were shredded and 2. Bella wouldn't sit in the pack-n-play anymore.

So, a few days went by and my husband and I went out to the store one night. It was dark and raining when we returned home so I wasn't quite paying attention when I got out of the car. I looked down on the drive way and I saw something moving. I thought it was an earthworm due to the rain, but when I looked closer, it was a baby SNAKE! Now, I don't mind baby snakes, but where the heck is the big one who made the baby! This now has me thinking there is a snake in my big planter (which I haven't weeded yet) so now I am afraid to go digging through there in fear that a huge snake will appear.

So...all in all, spiders and snakes are just not my thing. I don't like them by any means and will avoid them at ALL costs. This experience has only reminded me of why God placed exterminators in our lives.
